People of EarnIn: Cynthia Douglas-Booker

Cynthia has been working for nearly 45 years of her life. Now that all her children are out of the house, she’s looking forward to retirement and traveling the world with her husband. Check out her full story below:

“Well, I’m 60 years old. I have one granddaughter, three adult children, and I've been married for 32 years. We have no children that I am totally responsible for anymore so a lot of responsibilities that I had, I don't have now. So, I can come home from work, and I can relax. If you feel like cooking, you cook, if you don't, you don’t, so that feels wonderful. Now, I'm living for retirement. Since all the kids are out of the house, I'm just enjoying life or at least trying to.

My family is everything I have. Every holiday, we get together. My children are adults but they do come around often so we see our children a lot. We are very family oriented because we spend as much time as we can together.

When I raised my kids, I tried to make them understand that when you boil everything down, family is all you have. If you make enemies in your family you don't have anything. You can't depend on your girlfriend because she could be here today and gone tomorrow. But your sister is always going to be there. If you have brothers or sisters, you argue, but you get over it. She's still gonna call you and say, “You know what? I really need to talk to you” and you'll be like, “Okay, let's talk about it. You know, I'll come over, you know, I bring a bottle of wine, whatever, and we can sit down, and we can talk about it.”

At first, I thought EarnIn was too good to be true, but I really needed the assistance. I broke my hand so I couldn't go to work. I was off work for like six months. When I couldn't work, of course, you got things that are just mounting because for what you're getting in, my bills really exceeded that. So now, I'm back working, but you still don't have enough to cover everything. When my back got up against the wall, and they were talking about cutting my electricity off, well then I had to turn to EarnIn. There were no gimmicks, no strings, it was legit. Every once in a while, you have these little speed bumps, and you need a little extra cushion to help you get on your feet and push you along the way. I just thought the program was awesome.

I look forward to retirement, but then again, I don't because sitting in the house is something that I've never done. I’ve always worked and I've been working ever since I was 15, so retirement would be really different. I don't know what I would do but hopefully, we can retire in may, and me and my husband can just do a little traveling. That would be wonderful.”
