I understand SB 472 is meant to help consumers, but there are three points that are particularly concerning: I won’t be able to access income I’ve already earned more than 3 separate times each pay cycle. I should have access however often I want, if I’ve already worked for it. This is a dangerous assumption that consumers cannot self manage responsibly. My access to income I’ve already earned is capped at 50%. I should have access to 100% of it. This disadvantages people who get paid on a monthly pay cycle versus a weekly pay cycle. A 50% cap means that many teachers and government workers will only be able to access 50% of their pay, while people who get paid on a weekly basis will have access to at least 75% of their wages. This is a principle that is crucial to employee rights. SB 472 would potentially implement a fee structure and no one needs more fees. With Earnin’s current model, for example, I currently have the freedom to choose when and how much to pay. This model is very community and user centered and I would hate to have that taken away. Please modify or oppose SB 472. I urge you to work with Earnin to come up with a law that protects consumers without restricting employee access in a way that hurts them. *Your home address information is required from the Senate offices to ensure you are reaching out to your designated Senator and will not be stored by Earnin.
