People of Earnin: Connie Jordan

Connie Jordan has an incredible weight loss story. Through a proper diet, exercise, and plenty of walking, she was able to drop from 280 lbs to 140 lbs! Now Connie’s tackling a new challenge: finding a good job in the midst of a pandemic. Check out her story:

“I’ve been looking for a new job since I was cut off from work due to COVID. I’ve been trying to find remote work, but all the remote jobs are paying like $12-13 and I can’t afford that with a 13 year old child and my rent. But you have to make do with what you have, and right now I'm living off unemployment benefits. It’s a no-win situation but I’ve been trying. I’ve been doing interviews after interviews after interviews.

I'm a very private person. Most people won't know I'm going through something unless they’re living with me or if it's a dire need because I’ve been hurt by people in the past. I don't want them to talk about me or constantly bring up what they did for me later and I don't really like to bother my family either. That’s why Earnin was amazing for me when I was working. I’d think that I didn’t have enough money, but with Earnin, I could get this little $50 or this little $100. When I thought that no one was there to help me, Earnin was there.

Luckily, now I have my partner. She doesn't rush me to get a job but I’m just not used to sitting around. She works as a CNA (certified nursing assistant) for elderly people so she pays the bulk of our expenses and I pick up where she lacks. I’ll pay the utilities, phone bills, and the smaller things. She only comes home once or twice a week, so when she does come home, I just cater to her if she needs anything. I try to do as much as possible to alleviate any stress.

I know I can't let the pressures of all of this affect me. If you let the pressure weigh on you, you will mentally go crazy. I have to hold that shield and be strong for my son because if he sees me break, who's going to be the motivation for him? You just have to live day by day.”

We’re all working to improve our financial situation and the Earnin community is here to support you every step of the way.
